As we are sure you are all aware, this weekend is Tramlines and we can’t wait! The stage is being set up as we speak and the 50 venues involved are getting themselves ready for what’s set to be the biggest event of the year.
There are no tickets this year for the festival so queues are expected. The main stage is on Devonshire Green and the area can hold 7000 people- once this limit has been reached it is one in, one out so be prepared to wait.
If you can’t face an early rise on Saturday morning, there are plenty of things going off across the city throughout the whole weekend. For ideas on how to spend your time, visit the official Tramlines festival, where you can find the festival’s programme.
If you do go down to Tramlines this weekend, keep an eye out for the Pinnacles van! If you spot us driving around the city, take a pic and email it to mail@digpinnacles.co.uk. Everyone who emails in will be entered into a free prize draw where you could win two pairs of tickets for Sheffield’s big wheel.

At last! Praise mother nature, summer has finally kicked in! Flip flops are as far as the eye can see, sunglasses that eclipse your face are bouncing the rays throughout our glorious city that looks so much nicer bathed in sunlight.
With sunshine comes energy and the desire to get out there and do stuff, so here’s some stuff to do!
#1. We’ll start with one of the most talked about the events soon to hit the streets of Sheffield this month; Tramlines Festival.
After it’s phenomenal success last year it’s back and even bigger this year, spread across 3 days (23rd – 25th July) it practically takes over our fair city, almost every bar, green space and club is joining forces to make this a moment in Sheffield’s history that will go down as legendary. Echo & The Bunnymen headline, along with Mystery Jets, Simian Mobile Disco, Annie Mac, Mary Ann Hobbs and Tramlines champion Toddla T.
We can’t write anymore about it because the excitement is making our hands shake and eyes roll, bring it on! Oh one more thing…. IT’S FREE!
Here’s some more info.
#2. This weekend (9th July) means the Great Sheffield Art Show is back for it’s 23rd year and will showcase over 1,500 pieces from local artists. A fantastic day out, held at the Octagon Centre at Sheffield Uni and £4.50 to get in, well worth it.
Here’s some more info.
#3. On the 17th July the CandyFloss Summer Craft Fair comes to town, with over 30 stalls packed full of contemporary arts and crafts, loads of things to see and do and the best bit? Another FREE one!
Here’s some more info.
#4. Also on the 17th July but a little further out is the Three Valley’s Festival supporting “Real Ale” in our county. Spread across several venues which will be offering music, food and of course ale! There’s also a bus service put on to get you from place to place on the crawl!
Here’s some more info.
#5. The 22nd July sees Sheffield’s Farmer’s Market and the Continential come to town at the same time this month! Bringing mouth watering delights with it. Even if you can’t afford to get your weekly shop from organic and hand reared producers nothing is stopping you from going and tasting their wares, yummy!
The Farmer’s Market is located at Barker’s Pool (outside John Lewis / City Hall) and the Continental is all the way down Fargate, you’d have to be blindfolded to miss it!
#6. On the 29th and 30th August Sheffield’s Fayre comes to town. With fun for all ages, battle reenactments, displays, tons of stalls, fun and games it’s a great day out and just like Tramlines…. it’s FREE!
Here’s some more info.
Sheffield is jam packed full of things to do over summer, all you have to do is take a peak and you’ll never have a moment twiddling your thumbs again…. Enjoy!!!

Sheffield’s biggest free music festival Tramlines is back next month and we can’t wait!
Following on from its success last year, Sheffield’s free urban music festival is upon us once again and hopes to attract over 50,000 people this time around. With over 50 venues across the city including the main stage on Devonshire Green and new additions Leadmill and o2 Academy confirmed, this summer is set to be a scorcher and will be a guaranteed fix for all you music lovers out there!
Tramlines will take place Friday 23 – Sunday 25 July 2010 and has something to offer for everyone, regardless of your musical tastes with performances covering a range of genres and activities aimed at all ages… so get yourself down!
The acts this year have been confirmed including headliners Echo and the Bunnymen, Mystery Jets, Craig David and Annie Mac. Alongside these stars you will get the opportunity to sample some of Sheffield’s finest unsigned bands and artists and who knows, you may even spot the next Arctic Monkeys!
When Tramlines was first set up in 2009, it gave itself the ambitious task of creating an Urban Glastonbury, a cultural experience for everyone which would celebrate the city’s diverse and individual inhabitants.
Dave Healy, One of the Festival Organisers at Tramlines said: “We have made no secret of our admiration for Glastonbury. One of the things that makes that festival so special is the sheer variety of entertainment on offer. So our mission with Tramlines is to include as many different performing spaces and promoters into the festival as we can. It’s a free music festival so our budgets don’t stretch as far as our ambitions but this is where Sheffield comes into its own. Venues of all shapes and sizes have joined in making this year’s festival bigger, better and more diverse.”
Anyone who went to last year’s Tramlines will agree the guys did good and with promises of an even more exciting and exhilarating party this year, who knows where Tramlines will take us?!
For more information on the festival why not add them on Facebook by clicking here.
See you at the main stage!
