Take it from us, you don’t want to do that.

Being a Fresher is an amazing time in life but it can also be littered with metaphorical landmines! Here’s our guide of what not to do, learn from our embarrassing mistakes (we still have flash backs).

1. Get blind drunk.

Seriously, you don’t want to do it. Get merry by all means but don’t get so blotted you make a complete fool out of yourself. Maybe start dancing on a bar, fall off and crack your head open (no names mentioned) or maybe kiss that person you know you’ll regret for the next 3 years, or worse still, divulge all your pre-existing embarrassing stories to whoever will listen. You have plenty of time to tot up memories, ease yourself in.

2. Be seen everywhere.

Freshers week will turn into possibly the busiest week(s) of your lives. Every bar, club, gig, uni organised event will want a piece of you, you’ll feel like the most popular person in the world, your head will be spinning with calendar invites and you’ll not know which way to go!! HOLD UP for a second. Let’s think… going to everything could seriously dent the bank balance, it could lead to less enjoyment due to spreading yourselves thin and let’s face it, all those hangovers are going to sting.

3. Monday – Pizza, Tuesday – Curry, Wednesday – Chinese, Thursday – Malnutrition.

Do you want to leave uni 10 stone heavier than you arrived? Of course not. Do you want to leave with a host of health issues, bags under your eyes and looking like you’ve aged 20 years? Hell no! Just because you can eat convenience food doesn’t mean you have to, neither does it mean you can afford it. The brain needs fruit, veg and fresh food to work properly so make sure it gets it! Check out our previous blogs for recipe ideas.

4. Follow the crowds.

Understandably at school we all had to conform in some ways, at college it became a little less judgemental but there were still trends that were followed no matter what group you hung around with. We’re not saying these groups do not remain at uni, they stick around for life, but here you’ll be able to spread your wings a little. You’ll meet people you would have never met before, go places you’d never thought of and probably do things you said you never would. Embrace the change though, just don’t do anything we wouldn’t.

5. Spunk your loan.

DON’T DO IT. Hear us, hear us now, don’t waste your loan on crap you don’t need. You will spend the rest of your life regretting it, trust us. When you’re 30 and still paying off that debt (often straight from your wages) you’ll wish you hadn’t spent £500 on a jacket you never wore and lost anyway. We know we are coming across as party poopers but you’ll be thanking us when you’ve paid off all your debt and your friends who didn’t listen can’t get a mortgage, credit or treat themselves to a holiday because of it…
