Breaking News! Your favourite past time is under threat!

You’re sat waiting for a train, what do you do? Scan facebook. You’re on your lunch break, what do you do? Scan facebook? Ad break in the TV show you’re watching, you scan facebook and let’s face it, more often than not we’re checking people’s pages out and not commenting or ‘liking’ any of their posts, maybe we’re not even connected to them… shock horror! We are a generation of stalkers, digital stalkers.

Ladies and Gentlemen: We hate to break this news to you but there are moves to remove its anonymity! *Insert big sad face / unlike button here. We’ve just been alerted to this article on Student Beans.

Now, although currently there’s no announcement about Zuckerberg’s intentions to wipe the floor with us snoopers (pretty much all the population of Facebook), the plans in place to make group users more traceable opens the floodgates for further tracking ability.

Gone would be the days of checking out the ex’s latest and mentally sticking pins in their eyes and imagining them sinking into a pit of quicksand. Gone would be the days of nosing at old school friends gaining weight. Gone would be the days stalking that hottie you met at the weekend that you’ve methodically tracked down by going through the friends of people you think might know them, gone would be all of Facebook’s billion users opportunity for doing what us humans love to do… be nosey!

If people really want to keep their stuff private on Facebook it has the capabilities to hide all your posts, photos, updates from anyone but close friends, hey there’s even the option to keep things only for your eyes (we’re puzzled at why you’d put anything on facebook you wanted no one to see though?) so with all these elements in place and working, do we need to know who’s snooping at our pages?

From the stalker’s opinion, hell no, from the stalkee’s opinion, hell YES! It could be very enlightening to see who’s been checking you out. Would you want to know? Would it stop you scanning ravenously through photo albums of your most hated or most loved?

Our outlet to be our very own private detectives would be removed and there would be a huge void in the bored time activities to fill, how would you feel if this happened?

I run my own business called SLK Associates which is a PR, Marketing and Design agency, I'm 30, I employ 5 members of staff and I've done it all without any type business degree!

I've written for DIGS for around three years now, hoping to give their students a little insight into the world of work, what they can achieve if they put their minds to it and of course, a load of tittle tattle and random advice too. I'd like to think my years of experience and learning from my mistakes have helped in someway.

A bit about me personally - I have a horse, I am addicted to CSI (Vegas and NYC, Miami is pap), I am allergic to text speak (come out in a rash if I'm subjected to reading it), I make the best mince pies you will have ever tasted so don't try to challenge me on that and have two cats who go by the names of Busta and Rhymes... yes, you heard that right.
