What to bring to uni

Posted August 17th, 2010 by DIGS Admin. Filed in DIGS Student, Pinnacles.

With term fast approaching, I’m sure your thoughts are turning to “what to bring to uni??” You can’t bring the world with you (unfortunately) so be selective in your choices. Besides the necessities such as clothes and bed linen, bringing the right things with you can make for a great conversation starter and really help you ease in to uni life. To help you with your choices, we asked some of our DIGS staff and tenants “what one thing couldn’t you live without at uni???”

“When I went off to university for the first time, I took lots of photos of my family and friends from back home. I stuck these all over the notice board in my room which helped make it feel more like my place. When any of my new friends from uni came to visit me it would be a good talking point and helped people get to know me better. I gradually started sticking new pictures up from nights out at uni which soon made me realise what fun I was having and how much I had fitted in.”
Helen, the Pinnacles team

“I would recommend taking a deck of cards- brilliant for entertainment when your loan is running out and you can’t afford to go out and can be used for great drinking games too!”
Zak @ the Pinnacles

“Something unique to your hometown- like Henderson’s relish or a recipe for a local dish. This especially works if you are an International student as you can give your new flatmates a taste of your culture from back home.”
Tom @ the Pinnacles

“One of the things that is so great about uni life is that you can completely reinvent yourself- so I would definitely bring my gym stuff with me so I can get fit! The Hilton gym opposite the Pinnacles has loads of students in it so is also a good way to meet people too”
Scott @ the Pinnacles

We heart Fancy dress!

Posted August 12th, 2010 by DIGS Admin. Filed in DIGS Student, Pinnacles.

Fresher’s week is almost upon us and we are sure you are all gearing up for a week of late nights and big parties!

The Pinnacles are already planning two events not to be missed- a Welcome party on Wednesday 15th September and a bar crawl on Thursday 16th September.  The team haven’t finalised all plans yet, so if you have any suggestions or ideas for either events, send them an email on mail@digpinnacles.co.uk.

We all know how much students love fancy dress so the Pinnacles are planning some themed events throughout the year.  We are lucky enough to have a fancy dress shop opposite the Pinnacles on Broad Street called Magick.   The lovely guys at Magick have offered every one of our tenants a 10% discount on all costumes in September!!  To see what costumes they have call them on 0114 276 0482 or pop over and see them when once you are checked in.

We are sure you all have some brilliant ideas for costumes, but to get your creative juices flowing- here are some of ours:

Miss World- wear a cheap plastic crown, sash, long dress and gloves.  For a funny twist you could go as a “failed Miss World” and have mascara smudged down your cheeks!

Leftovers from tea- wrap yourself up in tinfoil… easy and cheap!

French person- most people have a stripey top in their wardrobe.  Add a neck scarf and a drawn on moustache and Voila!

Geek- all you need is one lab coat with pens in the pockets

Bin bag fashion- make a creative outfit purely out of bin bags!

To ensure you have everything you need for all the fancy dress nights that lie ahead, try to bring these simple things with you to University and you will be sure to have a stress free Fresher’s week:

School Tie
School Shirt
School Trousers or Skirt
Permanent Marker
A Selection of Face Paints
Gangster Hat/Cowboy Hat
Beach Shorts Hawaiian or Beach themed T-shirt.
Clothes you don’t mind having destroyed, ripped a bit or written on!

Whatever you choose to wear, we can’t wait to see you all at our Welcome Party in September!

Summertime and the living is easy…at The Pinnacles.

Posted July 22nd, 2010 by DIGS Admin. Filed in Pinnacles.

This summer the Pinnacles decided to open its doors to the public and have been offering summer accommodation for only £44.50 per week!

Bookings have rocketed with people coming as far a field as China to spend their summer with us.  The team are also happy to find that many current tenants have decided they just aren’t quite ready to leave us and have extended their contracts till the end of summer!

The Pinnacles is still taking bookings for summer.  So if you are looking for accommodation between now and 22nd August give the guys a call on 0114 275 4659.
