We’re not talking about some new reality TV program, although thinking about it that could be hilarious; this is the idea of two mums from Brighton. The concept is to help cash-strapped students and their families get University accommodation by swapping children (not legally of course). If your child has moved out leaving you with a spare room, you take a student who is studying in that area and give them a roof over their heads. Would parents want to take in a teenager they have never met before and so soon after getting rid of their own? Or would those mothers pining over an empty nest jump at the opportunity? Skool bans slang! Pupils ordered ta use da Queen’s cracker ass english in da classroom ‘ta help kids git jobs’. In other words a school in Sheffield has banned its pupils from using words like ‘hiya’ and ‘cheers’ as the academy believes it will help the students get jobs. Head teacher Kathy August says that ‘school is a formal place much like that of the workplace, and that pupils should learn to speak in such a manner that is expected of them.’ Read the rest of this entry »

Pancakes are so famous they have their own day. The legendary pancake started a long time ago in our very own England. Pancake Day falls on Shrove Tuesday which is the day before Lent and it was started so that people could use up all their eggs and luxury ingredients, filling themselves up with all the fatty store cupboard foods before fasting for the forty days before Easter.
